Misc. Notes
His tombstone lists his death date as 17 Aug 1859 and age AE 60.
He lived in the Mohawk Valley of New York prior to the American Revolution and apparently migrated to Canada after the American Revolution. George D. Wells had three brothers who went to the Dundas/Stormont area of Ontario Canada with him - John, Cornelius, and Henry. They all were born in New York....and moved to Canada from Schoharie Co, NY. They were British Loyalists, and claimed a Dutch/German history.
His Wells family took up a 55 acre farm on Lot 5, Concession I, Williamsburg Twp, Dundas County, Ontario, Canada. The family held this farm until at least the early 1900’s. It was on the north side of the road running along the St. Lawrence River, about 5 miles or so west of the little village of Aultsville ON.
He is listed in the 1851 census as a farmer, age 52 and member of the Church of England. He is with his family of 4 sons, wife Anne and daughters Mary, Julia and Katherine.

In 1861 census for Williamburg, he is listed as William Osburn, with wife Elisa Ann and 8 children.
She must have died, as he was remarried to Ann Scott Wells on 19 Feb 1867 in Dundas Co, ONT.
Listed with his (2nd)wife Ann in the 1871 census, age 57, born in England and a peddler.
He apparently died before 1881, since his (2nd)wife Ann was living with her son and listed as widowed in that census.
