Final Tribute Paid Memory
Durham Wells, a well known and highly respected Williamsburg resident died Sunday, August 17th following a brief illness. He was in his 85th year. A life-long resident of the community Mr. Wells was a son of the late George B. Wells and his wife Armanda Timkins.
Fifty-nine years ago he married the former Carrie Lane. who survives. Also surviving is one son, Graham of Williamsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Edward Lanigin (Madge) of Gananoque and 8 grandchildren.
Mr. Wells was educated in local schools and attended business college in Kingston. Having completed his education he operated his own machine business for a short time prior to taking
over his father's farm. Always active in community affairs he maintained his keen interest even after his retirement some 15 years ago. A member oof Colquhoun United Church, he was an Elder and for some years was Sunday School Superintendent.
Funeral services were conduct ed by Rev. D.L. Gordon at the home of the deceased at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20th. Rev. D.L. Gordon was assisted by Rev. Mervyn Peters. Honourary pallbearers were Floyd Fisher, Douglas Barclay, Walter Whitaker, Richard Casselman, Murray McDonald and Leo Hiedinga.
Orval Crowder, Douglas Gow, Fernley Johnston, Garnet Prunner, Merton O'Shaughnessy and George Shaughnessy were active pall bearers.
Interment took place at St. Lawrence Union Cemetery.
