He attended school at Aultsville, Ont., his former home. Was a brakeman on the Rutland railroad for three years before his marriage. He was transferred from Rutland to Ogdensburg, where they lived after they were married.

POTSDAM --Funeral services for Basil C. Wells, 72 of RD 2, Potsdam, were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Brasher Falls with the Rev. James Shurtleff officiating. Spring burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Dickinson.
Friends may call Thursday evening and Friday afternoon and evening at the Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam.
Mr. Wells died Wednesday morning(March 28, 1990) at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he had been a patient for just over a week.
Surviving are his wife, Theda; three sons, Bruce and Gary, both of Brasher Falls, and James of Bedford, Ind.; five daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Kearns, Texas, Mrs. Wayne (Sharon) Demcsak, Virginia, Mrs. Arthur (Arnita) Clark, Norfolk, Mrs. Thurmon (Kathleen) Hazen, Potsdam and Mrs. Bruce (Patricia) Winter, Kentucky; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Preston Wells of Massena and Graham Wells of Phoenix; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Wyona) Kropa of Amsterdam and Mrs. Larry (Maureen) Ziegler of Massena.
Mr. Wells was born June 1, 1917 in Aultville, Ontario, son of Ross and Helen (Dourley) Wells.
He wed Theda Fadden Sept. 2, 1941 at St. Anne's Church in St. Regis Falls with the Rev. Edward Tetroult officiating.
Mr. Wells was a farmer for most of his life until his retirement in 1973. He also served as a St. Lawrence County voting machine custodian for 27 years and a substitute rural mail for 20 years. Mr. Wells had also been employed by the Rutland Railroad for a time. He was active in the Stockholm Democratic Club and a past member of the Potsdam Grange and 4-H Club leader. He belonged to St. Patrick's Church.

BRASHER FALLS - A funeral for Theda Florence Wells, 70, of Debra Drive in Potsdam, will be held Monday at St. Patrick's Church in Brasher Falls. Burial will be at Sand Hill Cemetery, Dickenson, NY.
Friends may call at Garner Funeral Home Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon and evening.
She is survived by three sons; Bruce and Gary of Brasher Falls and James of Mitchell, Ind.; five daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Kearns of Kanay, Texas, Mrs. Wayne (Sharon) Demcsk of Reston, Va., Mrs. Arthur (Arnita) Clark of Norfolk, Mrs. Thomas (Kathleen) Hazen of South Colton, NY and Mrs Bruce (Patricia) Winters of the Phillipines; one brother, Bernard Fadden of New Castle, Pa., one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Votra of Clyde, NY; several grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wells was born Jan. 23, 1922 in St. Regis Falls, NY, the daughter of Arthur and Florence (LaChance) Fadden and attended school in St. Regis Falls.
She married Basil C Wells on Sept. 2, 1941 at St. Ann's Church in St. Regis Falls, NY.
She was a lifelong resident of Potsdam and a homemaker for many years. She and her husband operated a dairy farm, and she was active on the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections and with the St. Lawrence County Senior Citizens. Mrs. Wells was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Brasher Falls.
