[Obituary] Winchester Press
A lifetime resident of the Williamsburg area, Jean Beckstead passed away at the Caressant Care Nursing Home in Bourget, on Mon., Dec, 3, 2007, following a lengthy illness. She was 78.
She was born in Williamsburg Township on June 25, 1929 to her parents Fred and Rhoda Wells (nee Brown). She attended public school in Froatburn and then Morrisburg High School.
On Jan. 31, 1947 she married Duane Beckstead, and together they had four children: Stephen, Garry, Carol, and Scott. She was a devoted wife and mother who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
She worked as a cook for many years at Upper Canada Village, the 1867 restaurant, and the Scott's travel centre on Highway 401 westbound.
In her early years Jean enjoyed riding horses. As she got older she enjoyed knitting, quilting, and playing the guitar with her husband Duane. She and Duane travelled extensively over the years visiting the maritimes, western Canada, and several areas of the United States.
She is survived by her children Stephen (Julie) of Froatburn, Scott (Karen) of RR# 4 Winchester, and Carol Tremblay of Morrisburg, and her siblings Eileen Gallinger of Ingleside, Verna Tupper of Froatburn, and Earl (Jackie) Wells of Crysler. She will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Blake, Adele, Iris, Stephanie, Travis, Justin, Stephanie, Kurtis, Dana, Leah, and Hannah. She was predeceased by her husband Duane, her son Garry, and her brothers Ray and Russell Wells. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
There was no visitation or funeral service. Interment of cremated remains will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Riverside Heights in the spring.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
