Melba Jean Widener, age 78, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008, at the Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois.
Melba was born on August 3, 1929, in Warren County, Illinois, the daughter of Robert L. and Edna Severs Wells.
She was reared and educated in Monmouth, attending Monmouth Elementary and Monmouth High School.
Melba married E. William Widener on October 12, 1946 in Kirkwood, Illinois. He survives.
Melba was a homemaker in her own home. For a time she worked at the Monmouth Hospital as a cook in the cafeteria. She enjoyed traveling in their motor home, flowers and gardening and playing video games.
Melba is survived by her husband William "Bill" Widener of Monmouth, one daughter Michelle Chamberlain of Monmouth, and two sons Scott Widener and Carie of Monmouth, and Michael Widener of Monmouth. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Dorothy, Dana, and Jason Widener, Brandon and Dustin Ault.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Nancy Kay and one son, William David, four sisters Dorothy Jones, Edna Jones, Gertrude Redding and Ruth Frasier and one brother, Robert Wells.
