He lived with his mother and step father after his father’s death, and was listed with the Land surname in 1850. When his mother died he had a guardian for a few years until he came of age in 1857.
Was living with family of his brother James in Missouri in 1860.
Elijah Wells enrolled in the Civil War Union Army on 5 Aug 1862 at Leo, IN as a private in Co C of the 88th Regiment, Indiana Infantry with several others from Missouri. Elijah Wells died at Nashville, Tennessee on Nov. 11, 1863 and was buried there, then moved 2 years later to the Nashville Nat’l Cemetery, Section C Site 7239.
