93-year-old Fairfield, Illinois resident Anna Fern Massie died Tuesday January 1, 2013 at Wabash Christian Retirement in Carmi, Illinois. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Goldblatt, Hart and Bayless Clothing & Apparel store in Fairfield. She was a district representative for World Book Encyclopedia for 16 years. Over a span of nearly three decades her exceptional canning, baking, sewing and craft skills won numerous blue ribbons at both the Wayne County Fair and DuQuoin State Fair. Anna was a member of the First Christian Church of Fairfield for more than 50 years.
Anna was born December 24, 1919 in Leeds, Illinois to Fred and Ella Van Fossen Wells. She grew up in Mt. Erie, Illinois as one of nine children. On January 7, 1939 she was united in marriage in Henderson, Kentucky to Norman Massie who passed away on August 17, 2004.
Survivors include 2 sons Jerry Massie and his wife Marcia of Avondale, Arizona and Gary Massie and his wife Theresa of Friendswood, Texas; 2 daughters Norma Jean Noble and her husband William of Lansing, Michigan and Lea Austin of Robbinsville, North Carolina; a brother Charles Wells of Mt. Erie, Illinois; 2 sisters Mary Frye of Cisne, Illinois and Dorothy Osie Billington of Olney, Illinois; as well as 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, 4 brothers Glenn Everett, Gerald, Harold, and Elmo, and 1 sister Bernice Wood.
Services for Anna Fern Massie will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois with Chaplain Mike Fields officiating.
Burial will be at Travers Cemetery east of Mt. Erie, Illinois.
