Listed as a farmhand with his parents in 1900, and was unemployed two months during the year.
Children: James Robert Wells b. 8 Apr 1912 and (adopted) Grace Maria Wells b. 3 Sep 1926.
After their marriage they established their home on a farm north west of Downey, later moving to the O'Leary farm near Iowa City. In the year 1915 they moved to Minnesota. The first three years were spent on a farm near Modelia and then settled in Lavern, near Winnebago, where they lived until the death of his wife in 1936.
In 1940 he is listed on his farm as a widower (60, IA) with just his son James (28, IA) and adopted daughter Grace (15, MN).

Leger Wells Buried Here
Graveside services for Leger Wells, 86, of Truman, Minn., were held at Oakridge Cemetery on Sunday, Jan. 2, at 1:30 p.m. Funeral services had been held on Dec. 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the Spencer Armstrong Funeral Home in Winnebago, Minn. Pastor George Hamilton of the Delavan Methodist Church officiated. Honorary pallbearers were Chesil Tomlinson, Ed Sloan, Herry Hair, Orren Fairbanks, Leonard Nelson and Fred Sweet. Leger J. Wells was born June 28, 1879 at West Liberty, Iowa, and passed away at the Winnebago Hospital on December 30, 1965, from pneumonia and complications.
Mr. Wells was married to Mae Probst on January 28, 1909. He is survived by one son, James of Austin, Minnesota, and a daughter, Mrs. Robert Orr (Grace) of Truman.
In 1915 they moved to a farm in Madelia where they spent three years before moving to Winnebago in 1918. Mrs. Wells passed away in 1936. Aug 29, 1942 he was united in marriage at Huntley to Zelda Lloyd. In 1951 they moved to Carlos, Minnesota, were they resided for 14 years. They returned to Winnebago in April of this year. Mr. Wells had been in failing health for the last two years.
Mr. Wells is survived by his widow, Zelda; a son, James; a daughter, Grace; and four grandchildren--Susan, Lynn, and Ozzie Wells and Russell Orr. He was a brother-in-law of the late Charles D. Probst of West Liberty.
