Was married, working as a Millman for Pacific Mfg in Santa Clara when he registered for the WWI Draft. He had 2 fingers missing from his right hand at the time. He was inducted on 14 Dec 1917 at Ft McDowell, CA and discharged a Master Sargeant on 25 Mar 1919 at Camp Kearney, CA.
His wife, Nila Antonia Van Heukelom (14 Oct 1902 Sioux Center, IA - 7 Jul 1984 Long Beach, CA) is buried next to him.
