Golden Wedding.
An event of much interest to the people of this community, occurred November 30th, it being the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Francois Olivier Sr. The celebration began at nine thirty. The entire family assisted at Mass celebrated by Rev. Father KENNEALLY, who preached a most beautiful and instructive sermon for the occasion. After mass Mr. and Mrs. Olivier approached the alter rail, attended by their entire family of children, when the beautiful and impressive ceremony of the renewal of their marriage vows was preformed. Dinner was served at noon at their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Olivier are in good health and have been a most fortunate couple. During the fifty years of their married life there has never been a death in the family. Mr. Olivier was born in France October 11, 1842, and came to with his parents to America when four years old. Mrs. Olivier was born in Ohio September 8, 1849. They were married November 15, 1866 and settled on a farm in Holmes county, Ohio, where they resided until March 9th, 1885 when they came to Harper county, Kansas and located on the farm where they now live. Mr. Olivier has always been one of our most progressive and successful farmers and has always had the confidence and esteem of all who know him.
Mr. and Mrs. Olivier are the parents of twelve children and forty-seven grandchildren, all of whom are living in this community except one daughter who is a sister of charity and is a teacher at Davenport, Ia. The children are Francois Jr., Henry, Louis, George, Paul, Laurence and Joe Olivier, Laura, now Sister Mary Etienne, Mrs. Bernard SMITHISLER, Mrs. George MORITZ, Mrs. Alex MORITZ, and Mrs. John SKIDMORE.
Mr. and Mrs. Olivier received several beautiful and valuable presents. We all join in wishing them good health and many more happy years together.
