Listed as Burrel (33, IN), a bookkeeper in a Dry Goods store in 1920, with his wife Kathryn (32, IL) and her son Boehler (9, IN). They were living with her mother and two sisters.
Listed in the 1930 census as Burrell (49, IL), a Wire Chief for the telephone company and first married at age 27. He is again listed with his wife Kathryn (42, IL) and her mother and two sisters. Their son is listed as Boehler Smith (20, IN) - confirming that he was a son from her first marriage to Mr. Smith.
In 1940 Burell (53, IN) is working as a repairman for the telephone company and Kathryn (51, IN) is manager of a Gift Shop. Living with them are her sisters Lillian J. Boehler (56) and Mode B. French (49).
Burrell was listed as working for a telephone company when he registered for both the WWI and WWII Draft in Anderson, Indiana.

BURRELL J. WELLS
Funeral services for Burrell J. Wells, 74, 320 W. 14th St. who died Thursday morning, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Harold E. Rozelle Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin R. Phillips, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the East Maplewood Cemetery. The Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside services- Friends will be received after 2 p. m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Wells was a former wire chief of the Indiana Bell Telephone Co. in Anderson and has been retired since 1951.

Burrell Wells Dies
Burrell J. Wells, 74, former wire chief of the Indiana Bell Telephone Company in Anderson, died about 7:30 a.m. Thursday St. John's Hospital. He was born in Frankton July 23, 1886, a son of James J. and Elizabeth Hopkins Wells. For more than 70 years he lived in Anderson. Forty-five years ago he married Kathryn Boehler Smith. He was with the Central Union Telephone Company here and its successor, the Bell Telephone Company, more than 40 years before retiring In 1951. Mr. Wells was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge of Masons here, the Scottish Rite at Fort Wayne and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include: the widow, Kathryn; one stepson, Boehler Smith of Connersville; two grandchildren, Tom Smith and Carol Sue Smith of Connersville.
