His birth record is under Harlan Wm. Wells, but other records list him as William Harlan Wells. He went by Jerry after he migrated to California, along with an alias of Bradley Channing.
He apparently was sentenced in 1928 to 4 months in Columbus, IN for a liquor violation, then sent to the Indiana State Prison in 1929 for 13 months.
He is listed as Harlan (21, IN), a lodger on N. Franklin St, working as a porter in a hotel in Greensburg, IN in 1930.
There is a listing in the Indianapolis Star on 11 June 1938 stating a marriage license was issued to “Harlan William Wells, 28 years old, of Indianapolis, and Beulah Irene Dark, 25, of Pasadena, Cal.”
In 1940 he is listed as Harlan J. Wells (31, IN), an inmate in the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, divorced and having lived in Seymour, Jackson Co, IN in 1935.
He next showed up on 23 May 1941 at San Joaquin prison in California as Jerry Wells, with an alias of Bradley Channing and a sentence of up to 14 yrs. He was paroled on 1 Dec 1942, then parole revoked 9 Mar 1943 for hospitalization, and released from the hospital 24 May 1943. His parole was again revoked on 11 Oct 1943, and finally suspended 2 Nov 1944.
He is listed as Jerry H. Wells in his death record in California, which lists his date of birth in the state of Indiana.
