Misc. Notes
Ellen was named and raised as the daughter of Wm Schorr; but there are family rumors that she was actually the daughter of James Brennan who apparently had a relationship with, or may have been married to, Emma prior to her marriage to William.
Appears to be listed as Myrtle Brennan, age 1 in the 1892 NY census with a large Brennan family which includes James (22) a bartender and Emma (20).
The 1900 census lists Ella M. (Jan 1892, NY) as the daughter of William Schorr (Feb 1871, NY) a tinsmith married 9 yrs to Emma (Dec 1869, NY). Living with them was his sister-in-law Ellen E. Reipe (May 1877, NY) whose parents were born Geremany & England - same as Emma.
Ellen is listed with her parents, Wm and Emma Schorr, at age 18 in San Francisco in 1910.
She divorced Fred in 1919 and got custody of son Alfred, who was subsequently adopted by her parents. Fred apparently remained close to her and their son, as he also migrated from Reno to Los Angeles, and is seen in a photo with Alfred and his family in the late 1940’s.
In 1920 she is listed as divorced and working as a stenographer in a Reno law office; with herself and her son Alfred living with her parents.
By 1930 she was married to Gene Coon (32, MT) and living on W. Vernon Ave in Los Angeles.
Her death record lists her father’s surname as Brennan, indicating that James Brennan is her actual father, and supporting the family stories. It says she had lived in Los Angeles for 29 years.
Died of breast cancer.
