Married Margaret Matilda Wilson (1809 VA -1876) on 11 Sep 1832 and had a son George Wilson Chalfant b. 29 Mar 1836, who married Sarah Elizabeth Moore and became a minister.
His wife is listed as Matilda M. (62, VA) with their son in 1870 census for Bridgeport, Belmont Co, OH (widowed). Margaret Matilda Chalfant died 6 Jan 1876 at the age of 68 years and is buried in Martins Ferry, OH.
One researcher reports Samuel dying in 1852 of malaria but he has not been found in the 1850 census, although his probate records are recorded in 1852, confirming that is when he died of typhoid fever in New Salem, PA.
Not sure where he was initially buried, but the records for Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburg indicate that he was (much) later moved and re-buried there with his son and family. Unfortunately his headstone is now knocked over and face down.
