He enlisted in the National Guard on 22 Aug 1916, in Co A 7 Infantry ONG as a Private, with Honorable Discharge 24 July 1917, apparently due to his father’s death, so that he could care for his mother.
WWI Draft registration list him in Newark in 1918 as a truck driver for the Creamery. It states he didn’t register in 1917 because he was in the Army. It references his wife Henrietta. He apparently was married about 1917, as the 1930 census says he was married at age 23.
Recorded in 1920 census for Newark, OH with his wife Henrietta M. (23, OH) and year old daughter Roberta C.
Still there in 1930 with two additional sons, Joseph (9, OH) and Luther (7, OH).
They are listed in the 1940 census, before his death.
Henrietta M. (Evans) Painter died 14 Feb 1964 in Licking Co. and is buried in Cedar Hill Cem, Newark.
