[Obituary]
Graveside services for Eldon J. Craig will be held 10:00 am, Monday, March 15, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Eldon was born August 3, 1929 to Roy J. and Beulah Wells Craig on his Great Grandmother Riggs’ farm. He was raised west of Enid on the farm his grandfather purchased in 1908, where he spent his life. Eldon and Aletha Morgan were married November 18, 1951 and celebrated 69 wonderful years. He was a farmer, dairyman, and cowboy first. Eldon and Aletha raised four children on this farm. He was active in rodeos, trail rides, team sorting and mostly any horse activity. At the young age of 78, he participated in in the month-long Centennial Cattle Drive for the 100th anniversary of statehood. It followed the Chisholm Trail from Texas to Kansas. This was the longest of three cattle drives in which he participated. In 1964, Eldon crossed the Continental Divide in Colorado riding a great horse named “Reno”. He farmed and ranched until he retired to care for the Love of his life. He was a generous man, ready to help a neighbor in need. Mom and Dad, the cute couple, always loved a good dance. He was a member of the Cherokee Strip Round-Up Club, Cowboy Church, First United Methodist Church and served on the Great Plains Cooperative Board. He is survived his wife, Aletha; daughter, Joyce (Everett) Hildebrand; son, Dennis (Sharon) Craig, James Craig, all of Enid, David (Lizann) Craig of Okarche; grandchildren, Kyle, Michael, Chase, Maddie, Austin and Mallory; and seven great grandchildren. Memorial donations can be made to OMRF mental health and dementia with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
