[Obituary] Mount Vernon News - Tues 23 May 2006
MOUNT VERNON — Robert J. Wells Jr., 75, of Mount Vernon died May 21, 2006, at the Country Court Nursing Center.
He was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Mount Vernon to Robert J. and Ruth Ann (Trott) Wells Sr. He was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and NEA; and was a life member of the VFW. He was a 40-year employee of the Mount Vernon Schools, retiring as principal of Elmwood School in 1992. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Forrest) Wells, to whom he had been married 48 years; two sons, John (Barbara) Wells of Hilliard and Steven (Beth) Wells of South Amherst; one daughter, Melissa (Tom) Schluter of Bucyrus; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn (Charles) Hagedorn of Plantation, Fla., and Jean (John) Frary of Valhalla, N.Y.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, David T. Wells.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rodney Buchanan officiating. Burial, with military honors by Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be in Mound View Cemetery.
