Betty A. Howland, 80, of Iola died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
She was born Feb. 18, 1928, on a farm northwest of Iola, to Virgil R. and Nina A. (Wells) Estep. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Iola and attended Carpenter Rural School and Iola High School.
On April 20, 1945, she was married to Lewis R. Howland in Eureka. They made their home on the farm north of Iola until 1950 when they moved to Wichita where he worked in the aircraft industry. They followed the aircraft industry to various parts of the country before returning to Iola in 1970.
She worked in the kitchen at McDonald-Douglas in St. Louis, Mo., and then at United Airlines out of Atlanta, Ga. After returning to Iola, she managed the cafeteria at Allen County Community College a number of years and retired in 1993 from the food service department at Arkhaven Nursing Home. After her retirement, she helped her husband build and paint his model projects that are on display at the Humboldt Historical Society and Museum, of which she is a member. He died April 3, 2007.
She is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Boyers, Marilyn Prock and her husband, J.F., and MaryAnn Percy and her husband, Mark, Iola; a sister, Dorothy Samford, Iola; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A grandson, David Lewis Stanley, and a brother, Victor Estep, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Waugh Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. The Rev. Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

In life he built mini circus wagons and they are on display at the Humboldt Historical Society & Museum in Humboldt, Kansas.

Lewis Rivers Howland, 83, of Iola, KS, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
He was born Dec. 15, 1923, at the home of his grandparents George and Grace Rivers, to Lewis Alonzo and Florence M. (Rivers) Howland.
He was graduated from Iola High School in 1943.
On April 20, 1945, he was married to Betty A. Estep in Eureka, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Evelyn Boyers, Marilyn Prock and husband, J.F., and Mary Ann Percy and husband, Mark, all of Iola, KS; two sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Hoffman, Iola, KS, and Jean Ansell, Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A grandson, David Lewis Stanley, an infant sister, Mary Emily, and two brothers, Paul and John, died earlier.
Burial will be Apr. 7, 2007 in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
