MRS. ALEXIS RANSOM Recently Passed Away in Ohio—Was a Former Resident.
Mrs. W. F. Andrews sends to The Telegraph a copy of the Warren, Ohio, Daily Chronicle of August 9, which has the following: "Peacefully, and as if falling into slumber, Mrs. Alexia Ransom sank into rest Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Her illness of seven days duration was severe, but without suffering, and she had been unconscious for some time before the end came. She was 83 years of age. Mrs. Ransom was a daughter of Edmund and Roxy Cherevoy and was born at Stephentown, N. Y., July 12, 1814. She had been twice married, and Mrs. S. S. Smith, the daughter by her first husband, is the only surviving member; her son, Mr. W. T. Brown, having preceded her about eight months. Mrs. Ransom lived most of her life at Kalamazoo, Mich., where she was widely known. She had been remarkably free from sickness in any form. Patient and kind always, generous to an exceptional degree, and ready ever to lend a helping hand, those who knew her cherish the memory of a delightful woman. The funeral was held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the residence of Mr. S. S. Smith where Mrs. Ransom's home had been since she came to Warren about six years ago. Rev. Douglas I. Hobbs of Little Rock, Ark., read the beautiful Episcopal burial service and '"Abide With Me" ' was sung by Mrs. R. I. Gillmer, Miss Sallie T. Smith, Messrs. Eugene B. Fond and William D. Ackley as the closing hymn. When the shadows lengthened and the day was drawing to a close the remains were laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery. The clergyman. Rev. Mr. Hobbs, and the pall bearers were members of the family—Messrs. S. S. Smith, Stephen S. Smith, jr., William F. Andrews and Charles S. Brown. Mrs. Ransom lived about thirty years in the house which was afterwards sold to the Industrial school association. She went several years ago to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Brown Smith, in Warren, O., to reside. Mrs. Ransom was a quiet, unassuming woman and had many friends. She had a son, William Brown, and the daughter above referred to. Mr. Ransom had four children, James Ransom, who resided in the west; Libbie Ransom who afterwards married; Celia and Bell Ransom.
