Eli is known to be alive in 1886 when an article in the Chillicothe Tribune, Thursday, August 19, 1886 states that James Lightner and Miss Amanda Gorman, both of Medicine Township, were married at the residence of Eli Hufford.
In 1900, he is listed as Elija, a farmer (82, KY) with his wife Susan (47, MO) and nephews James (31, MO) and Bruce (30, MO) Gorman.
