Joseph Edwin Nutt
Joseph Edwin Nutt, tax collector in North Belle Vernon, died at his home early Sunday morning. He health was broken as a result of eight months spent in Andersonville prison during the Civil War. Mr. Nutt was born near Brownsville in 1841, and was the son of Joseph and Nancy Randolph Nutt. He enlisted in Company H, First Pennsylvania cavalry, participating in the battles of Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and Appomattox. Six months before his three year’s enlistment had expired he was captured and confined in Andersonville prison. In 1865 he was married to Theresa Wakevold, who died in 1898. One daughter - Mrs. E. A. Warrensford of Bellevernon, survives. The late captain A. C. Nutt, murdered at Uniontown some years ago, was a brother. Of a family of seven children Mrs. Elizabeth A. Breckenridge, of Brownsville, a sister, survives. Mr. Nutt was prominent in Grand Army circles, was a member of McKean Commandry, Knights Templar, at Charleroi, and of the Royal Arcanum. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church.
