He was born 1794 in Virginia, the son of Levi Methvin and Elizabeth (Gooch) Methvin. He moved to Madison County, Alabama before 1809. There he was educated and became a prominent figure of the community. He was Justice of the Peace back in a day when it was an honor to hold such a position. He married Hannah Woodard, daughter of Eli Woodard. He was the father of nine children all of whom were born in Madison County. In the fall of 1858 he moved with his family to Texas, stopping first in Fannin, and afterward settling in Grayson County. He died at his home in Grayson Co. in 1882. Five of his sons fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy, four of them died during this war.

4. Levi T. Methvin, 2nd Lieutenant in Co.F, 6th Texas Vol. Infantry during the Civil War. Died during the War.

6. Joseph R. Methvin, bn. 1836, married Martha S. Bone
7. Aaron Woodard Methvin, bn. 10 March 1839, married Abecilla Cox, she died leaving no descendants, and he remarried to Mary K. Patton on 19 Oct. 1867, again having no children. He came out of the Civil War without a cent, and by hard work and good management he accumulated a great deal of property. He was considered one of the most prosperous, well-to-do farmers of Grayson Co, Texas
8. Alfred Methvin, died of wounds received during the battle at New Hope Church on 12 January 1863 (Civil War)
9. Albert Methvin, died on 11 January 1863 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas of wounds received during battle.
