Misc. Notes
His father was John Land, a Rev. War soldier who married Nightingale ? abt 1787.
Moses's first wife was Ann Warren b. VA, m. April 20, 1822 in Garrard Co, KY. In 1830 he is listed in Kentucky with -
male: 2<5, 1=5-9, 1=20-29; female: 1<5, 1=20-29. Listed next to him is his father, John, and brothers John and Richard.
They had several children born in Kentucky before she died 1838, and he moved to Decatur Co, IN where he was listed in the 1840 census near his brother Wm with:
males 1 < 5, 1=5-10, 1=10-15, 2=15-20, 1=40-50 female 1 < 5, 1=10-15
Moses then married Elizabeth Wells in July of 1840. Listed in 1850 as 46 and born in So Carolina, with his second wife, Elizabeth and a mix of his, hers, and their children - all listed with the Land surname. There is a son John (12, IN) who wasn’t listed in the Wells family history from Dorothy Samford, but is listed with the Wells sons. The 1840 census totals also don’t indicate that there was a 5th son, and quick search didn’t find him as either John Wells or John Land in later census records. (Most probably a son from Moses’ previous marriage.)
Moses is listed as 58 and born in No Carolina in 1860 where he is listed with their sons Jasper and Zacharia and next to the family of his son Moses (from the first marriage) but without Elizabeth.
His third wife was Margaret McDarnald who he married 13 March 1861. In the 1870 census, he is still listed in Salt Lick Twp, Decatur Co, IN as a farmer (68, NC) with his 3rd wife (45, KY), daughters Sarah J. (21, IN), Mary E. (19, IN) from his previous marriage to Elizabeth, as well as son A. L. (8, IN), Rebecca A. (6, IN), Margaret (4, IN), Oren W. (3, IN) and daughter E. E. B. (2 mos, IN).
In 1880 he is listed as a farmer (78, NC) with wife Margaret (55, KY) who is listed with paralysis, Robert (18), Rebecky (16), Margaret (14), and Eliza (10).
His Great Grandson, Charles Perry Land (from first wife, Ann) also married Bertha Mae Wells, widow of Richard Wells.
