He is living with his uncle Morgan in Shelbyville in 1920, as a nephew, Raymond (5 yrs, 11 mos, IN).
He was placed in Gordon Children’s Home in 1922, along with his brothers, when his parents separated and was released to Mrs. Robert Shaw on 9 Nov 1930.
In 1930 he is listed at the Shelby County (Gordon) Children's Home as Raymond E. Wells at age 16 with his brother Chester.
He was single, living in Marion Co, and had completed one year of high school when he enlisted in the Infantry at Fort Benjamin Harrison on 20 Nov 1940.
His headstone lists him as a PFC Co M 23 Infantry - WWII.
His parents, birth, death and burial are recorded in the Shelby County Death records, page 376.
His death certificate says that he had prearranged his burial, and that he shot himself in the roof of his mouth with a 22 cal. rifle at home. He was cremated.
