Unclear, but from her mother's obituary and Irene's, it seems that she was probably first married to a James Rose, and was living with him in Indianapolis in 1972, when her mother died.

Edith "Irene" Rose Land Bays, 78, Beech Grove, died February 14, 2005. She was born February 14, 1927 in Greensburg, to the late Perry & Bertha (Herron) Land. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Tabernacle. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 17 at Fountain Square Mortuary, with calling there 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 16. Burial will be in New Crown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, in care of the Mortuary. She is survived by her husband, Vaughn C. Bays; son, Charles William (JoAnn) Shoopman; daughter, Tina Marie (Billy Lockhart) Torres; 6 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Gracey Nicole Rose; and an aunt, Memory Sidebottom.
