In 1940, they are listed in Prescott, WI with George (36, WI) working as a steamboart captain, with Phyllis (33, WI) and son Jack (9, WI). It says they were living in Joliet, WI in 1935.
Worked on the river as an engineer, before becoming a professor of math/engineering at the University of Arkansas.

Mrs Phyllis Brewer Karnath, 71, of Benton, a former Fayetteville resident, died Sunday at hor home in Benton. Born Jan 30, 1907 at Prescott, WI, the daughter of John and Katherine Hoftender Brewer she had lived in Fayetteville 22 years before moving to Benton, was a Presbyterian and the widow of George P Karnath who died in 1975. She is survived by a son, Jack of Preston, OK a daughter. Mrs Judith Robertson of Benton, two brothers. John Brewer, of Hasting, MN and Roy Brewer of Fountain City, WI a half sister, Mrs John Finley of Prescott and seven grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 10 am Wednesday at Fairview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
