LONGMONT, Colo. - Merlyn Swanson, 82, of Longmont, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Boulder Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 18, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., to Sigurd and Anna (Hellsevig) Jacobsen.
She graduated from Aitkin (Minn.) High School in 1941 and from Trinity Bible College in 1945.
On Aug. 24, 1945, she married Walter Swanson in Malmo, Minn.
She was a member of the Spirit of Life Open Bible Church of Kearney. She was a home Bible study leader for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and gardening. She will be remembered as a woman who always served others and helped care for all.
She was a minister's wife and for the past eight years had been a home health care provider. The couple moved from Kearney to Longmont in May 2006.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Elwood Jacobsen.
Survivors include her husband; son, Arden of Oak Park, Ill.; daughter, Laurie Swanson-Guzman of Longmont; brother, Gerald Jacobsen of California; and sister, Pearl Utterman of St. Cloud, Minn.
Additional survivors include her daughter-in-law, Sandra Swanson of Oak Park; daughter's fiancé, Eric Taylor of Longmont; sister-in-law, Ruth Jacobsen of California; grandchildren, Doug Swanson, Brad Swanson, Michael Guzman, Tracie Lechman and her husband, Brandon Babeon, and Sherry Pulcino and her husband, Roarke; and four great-grandchildren, Avery, Naylen, Ella and Hailey.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Spirit of Life Open Bible Church in Kearney with the Rev. Greg Mast officiating.
The body has been cremated. Memorials are suggested to the Kenneth Copeland Ministries at 14355 Morris Dido Road, Newark, TX 76071.
