Ole Anderson Winger left Tingelstad, Norway with his oldest son Anton on the 20th of April, 1880. Their destination was Minnesota. His wife, the former Randi Stensrud and daughter Anne Winger would leave four months later. They traveled on the ship "Hero" across the ocean and went to Watson, Minnesota. In the summer of 1880, Ole and Anton were living in Tunsberg Township, Chippewa County Minnesota with Dorthea Guldbrasdatter Hilden. They were neighbors in Norway and the Hilden's had left in 1866 for the United States along with Lars Stensrud. Ole's wife, the former Randi Stensrud, had a sister Kari who was married to Gilbert Hilden, the son of Dorthea Hilden. In the 1885 Minnesota State Census he is listed as Ole Vinger with wife and five children.

In the 1900 U.S. Census Ole is a farmer in Akron township, Big Stone County, Minnesota and has 8 children at home. In 1905 Minnesota cesnus, they are living in Lake Shore Township, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota. Ole farmed with the help of his sons. He liked to trap and fish.
Ole's wife Randi died 16 years before Ole. In 1920, Ole is a widower living with son Anton and his family in Appleton, Minnesota.
