BURLINGTON, N.C. - Ruth "Peggy" Whitelock, 96, of Burlington, formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, in Burlington.
Born Jan. 1, 1908, in Morgantown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William A. and Sarah B. Grubbs Wells.
Her husband, Ernest W. Whitelock, preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Salvation Army Home League and was a volunteer at City Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Vera Poland of Burlington; one son, Dr. William J. Vandervort of Las Vegas; one sister, Violet Frame of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. John Yost and Whitelock's grandson, Jeffrey Vandervort, will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
