Alice (Carter) Zemler passed away on April 6, 2006, at Pottstown Memorial Hospital. She was born in New York in 1922 and was a daughter of the late Louis and Rose Carter. She was the widow of Herman Zemler. While residing in New York, she worked as an administrative secretary for a law firm at Rockefeller Center. She and her husband later moved to Kingston, Pa., where they raised their family for 40 years. She devoted her life to her family, whom she loved deeply. Afterward, she resided in Palm Beach, Fla., Pottstown and Royersford, Pa. Alice was the most loving and supportive mother to her son, Robert of Stroudsburg, Pa., and her daughter Ellen Childress (wife of Bruce) of East Coventry Township, Pottstown, Pa. She embraced Bruce as one of her own children. She was the beloved and cherished grandmother of Erin Zemler, and Eric, Karly and Kacie Childress. She is also survived by her dear stepmother, Vivian Carter, and sisters, Evelyn Cooper, Valerie Leibowitz and Karen Dreyfuss. She was predeceased by her brother, William Carter. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alice's sense of humor and loving ways had a profound impact on her family and all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006, at noon at Beth Israel Congregation located at 365 Pottstown Pike (state Route 100) in Eagle (Uwchland Township) Pa. Afterward, there will be a luncheon at Ludwig's Inn, Eagle, Pa., to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice or Pottstown VNA Hospice in her memory.

Herman Zemler, 85, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, was one of the pioneers in establishing the dress business in the Wilkes-Barre area.
He owned and operated dress factories, Plymouth Dress, Inc., for 45 years. Born in New York in 1919, he and his wife, Alice (Carter) moved to Kingston in the early 1940s. He later moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., and in recent years resided in the Pottstown area and the Southeastern Veterans Center. He was an Army veteran, having served in the military police in Burma and India during WWII. He was a member of the Shriners and the Jewish War veterans. He was an avid sports fan and loyal to the New York Giants and the Yankees. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Carter) Zemler; children, Ellen Childress of East Coventry and Robert of Mt. Pocono; grandchildren, Eric, Karly and Kacie Childress and Erin Zemler.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Beth Israel Congregation, 385 Pottstown Pike (Route 100), Uwchland, Pa. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Hospice VNA Care, 1963 E. High Street, Pottstown, PA or the American Cancer Society.
