Roger "A." Cassell, aka “Bill on the Hill”, of Lockport, NY, entered into rest Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia. He was born May 22, 1935, in Morrisburg, Canada, the son of the late James and Nellie (Wells) Cassel. Roger served in the US Navy from May 1952 to May 1955, serving aboard the USS Sage. Roger was a City of Lockport Fireman from 1969 to 1997. He was also the owner and operator of T & R Concrete. In Roger’s younger years, he was an athlete of sorts, playing semi-pro hockey and baseball. As he “ho-hummed” through life, golfing, hunting and “concrete” filled his time. He always had a song to sing, a story to tell or a joke to share, “I think I’ve said that once or twice”. Memories are what Roger was all about, whether you remember him as “Roger A. Cassell” or Firefighter Cassell, he held a special place in all our hearts. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched. Roger was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Tessie Romano Cassell. She passed away on December 17, 2005. Father of Cindy Beyer and Tammy (Mike) McEachon, both of Lockport. Grandfather of Cindi (Matt) Beyer, Brian (Kelly) McEachon, Charlie III, Amanda and Brandon Beyer, all of Lockport. Great-grandfather of Emilee McEachon and Lily Beyer. Brother of Carl (Diane) Cassell of Las Vegas. Very close nephew, John (Hercilia) Cassell and family: Felipe, Daniela and Nicholas of Gasport. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 3-6:30 PM at Faith Tabernacle Church, 5676 Beattie Ave., where funeral services will immediately follow visitation. After the service all are invited to share a meal and memories with the family in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia for their excellent care and concern for Roger.
