Silas Washington Fountain, 74, died Tuesday, May 9, in the Tahlequah City hospital. He was born on October 17, 1897 to William Robert (Bob) and Margaret Alzina Roberts Fountain in Tilly, AR.
He was owner and operator of Fountain Grocery and Sawmill in the Standing Rock community in Cherokee County. Silas was a member of the Carter Baptist Church.
When plans were made to build Ten Killer Dam, the store, house, and sawmill had to be moved or demolished for the widening of the highway and other improvements. Clell Wilburn Fountain, one of Silas’ grandsons had the house moved to another piece of property in Park Hill to preserve the house. His plans and dreams are to restore the house once he retires.
Silas was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Floyd, Cloy, and Lee Roy Fountain all whom are buried in the Union Hill Cemetery, Van Buren County, Tilly, Arkansas.
Survivors include Mrs. Florence Fountain of the home, four sons, Clell, Bob, Lloyd, and Clifford; two daughters Jewell & Geraldine; Also surviving are these siblings. Alfred, Willie, Velva, Bertha, & Annabell.

Florence Tipton Fountain, 90, passed from this life on January 14, 1993. She was born July 10, 1902 to Wiley and Katherine Casto Tipton.
Florence and her husband, Silas, operated a grocery store in Cookson, OK. When the Tenkiller dam was built, the store building was destroyed, but one of the grandsons, Clell Wilburn Fountain, had the house removed to another piece of property. He has plans to restore the house.
