Peleg Tallmen, merohant, died in Bath, Me., 12th March, 1840.
He received a pablic school education, and at the age of fourteen entered the privateer service against Great Britain.
He served on the Trumbull; lost an arm in the engagement of this vessel and the Watt in 1780, and was captured and imprisoned in England and Ireland in 1781-3. Subsequently, he became master of & vessel, and afterwards a merohant at Bath, where he acquired a fortune.
He was elected to Congress as a Demoorat; served from November 4, 1811, to March 3, 1813, but declined re-election, and refused to support the war with England.
His brother, Holder Tallman, married in Tiverton, R. I., October 28, 1787, to DRUSILLA TABOR, daughter of Jacob and Susannah (Dennis) Tabor, born in Tiverton, R. I., October 31, 1767.
Their son, Jonathan Sowle Tallman, was born June 30, 1789.

PELEG TALLMAN (Peleg Elizabeth' Sam' John' Sam'), born July 24, 1764, married, June 14, 1790, Eleanor Clarke, born 1774 at Boston, Mass., died 1857 at Bath, Me., daughter of John and Maria Theresa (Larck) Clarke.
Pelig Tallman during the Revolutionary War served on the frigate "Trumball," Captain James Nicholson, in an action with the British letter of Marque "Watt," Captain Courtland; was wounded by a ball, necessitating the amputation of his left arm.
He was then sixteen years old and had command of one of the after guns of the " Trumball"
He was taken prisoner, sent to Fortune Prison, England, and kept in confinement until peace was declared.
Then he, without money, was turned adrift in France. He secured passage on a ship to Philadelphia, and thence made his way to Boston.
He was granted a pension by the U. S Government. In 1799 he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and ordered to report on board the firigate "Constitution," but for business reasons returned the commission. He lived at different times in Bath, Woolwich and Vassiboro, Me., where he was engaged in ship building, etc., and amassed an ample fortune. He served in the Massachusetts and Maine Legislatures, and in 1812-13 was Member of Congress from the Lincoln District. He was also President of the Bank at Bath, at which place he died March 8, 1841.
