He and Frances are listed in San Francisco city directories as early as 1907 (on 6th Ave). The 1930 census says he was first married at age 20, which would indicate after he immigrated.
Listed in the 1920 San Francisco census on Sixth Ave as a furniture finisher (57, Portugal), with his wife Frances (55, Portugal), and their niece Georgina (15, CA). It says they immigrated in 1880 and were naturalized in 1890.
Listed again on Sixth Ave in 1930 as furniture finisher (64, Portugal), but this time with a new wife Marie J. (48, CA) whose parents were from Portugal. With them is his step-daughter Marie Thomas (35, CA) who was working as a club hostess. This record says he immigrated in 1894.
