KARL BROOM
SALISBURY - Karl Albert Broom. 64, of 128 E. Henderson St. died Monday at Salisbury VA Medical Center. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lyerly Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Newton officiating. Burial will be at Salisbury National Ceme- tery with military rites conducted by
Pope Air Force Base. A Winnsboro, S.C., native. he was a U.S. Air Force technical sergeant retiree, served with the 82nd Airborne Division, received the Congressional Medal of Honor, four Bronze Stars, three Silver Stars and was a member of Four Square Gospel Church. Surviving are wife, Mrs. Velma Reavis Broom: sons, Walter Broom of Lexington, Karl Broom Jr. of Washington: daughters. Mrs. Karline Knapp of Glendale, Ariz., Mrs. Eva Quick, Mrs. Miranda Godfrey and Mrs. Madge Frame of Lexington; sister, Mrs. Doris Young of Winnsboro, S.C.: 18 grandchildren: three great-grandchildren: two step-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. today.

Velma Reavis Bioum, 80, of Salisbury, died Monday, July 7. 1997, at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a serious illness of one week.
Borni June 18. 1917 in Yadkin Cuunly to the late Ida Bell Wooten and Giles Reavis, she was educated in the Yadkin County schools and was a homemaker. She attended Rowan Christian Assembly of God in Granite Quarry and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Boyagen Wells; and her second husband, Karl Albert Broom. She is survived by a son, Gary Wells of Faith; and 2 grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. July 9 at Salisbury National Cemetery by the Rev. Clynn Dickens.
