Solomon Fenton, at eighteen years of age, enlisted in the War of the Revolution on 26 May 1777; served as a private in Captains Jonathan Parker’s, Wolcott’s and Henry Ten Eyck’s companies, Colonels Charles Webb’s and Isaac Sherman’s Connecticut regiment. He was in the battle of Monmouth, length of service three years. He enlisted July 3, or 4, 1781; served as a private in Captain David Dorrance’s company, Colonel Isaac Sherman’s 5th Connecticut regiment, was at the siege of Yorktown and under Captain Lemuel Cleft and Colonel Hamilton for the surrender of Lord Cornwallis to Gen. George Washington; was discharged near West Point, NY June 29, 1782 from the 5th Connecticut regiment. He returned to Willington, where he m. Hannah Parker, and after her death, Molly Parker. They removed to the south part of Willington, one and a half miles north of Mansfield Four Corners, in 1806.
He was a Selectman of Willington in 1807, 1808, 1816 and 1817. In 1820, he stated that his wife was forty four years old, but did not give her name (known to be Molly Parker), and referred to his son Horace, aged fourteen years; his daughter, Hannah, aged twelve years; and his daughter Olive, aged two years. He also listed his sister Lydia and mother-in-law Mary Parker (79) with the family. He was still living in Willington in 1832.
He drew a pension (#S-13007) of eight dollars a month until his death, which was Aug. 27, 1843; his wife died April 15, 1853.
