Dorothy M. (Johannes) Tallman July 18, 1930 - Feb. 9, 2012
Dorothy M. (Johannes) Tallman, 81, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend, entered into the Kingdom of God on the morning of Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Wayne Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Dorothy's life was devoted to her family and she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the Lord, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas C. Tallman Sr. on November 19, 1986. The couple married on February 6, 1951 in St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.
Born July 18, 1930 on the family farm in Cherry Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Jerome F. Sr. and Ellen Miller Johannes. Along with being a housewife and raising her children, Dorothy began working at Chroma Tube in White Mills and later she was a personnel manager at W.T. Grant Co. in Honesdale. Dorothy and her husband were the co-owners of the Great H Mart and Shop 'N Save in Honesdale. She retired from Two Guys From Italy Restaurant where she was the bookkeeper.
Dorothy was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, and a life member of Court St. Martin 418, Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, crocheting and shopping. Most of all, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons, Michael T. Tallman and wife Catherine, Thomas C. Tallman Jr. and wife Linda S., David T. Tallman and wife Lisa all of Honesdale and Brian T. Tallman and wife Sheri of Broken Arrow, OK; a daughter Ellen Leonardi and companion David Strahler of Honesdale; brothers Jerome Johannes II of Cherry Ridge and James Johannes of Waymart; sisters Christine Cavage of Steene, Ruth Robinson of East Stroudsburg and Joan Kennedy of Honesdale; grandchildren Jeremy Robert, Kevin Michael, Ryan Thomas Tallman, Sean McGinnis, Christopher and Lacey Gilbert, Adam and Jonathan Tallman, Meaghan Simpson, Brian Tyler and Allison Lindsay Tallman; great grandchildren Kadin Michael and Vada Grace Killam and Shane Thomas Simpson; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jennifer L. Tallman Killam; brothers Eugene, Joseph and William Johannes; sisters Kathleen Ruddy, Marie Spangenberg and Ellen Jaggars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
