Misc. Notes
She was the sole heir of Sarah's will, and was referred to as her step daughter. The date of Sarah's marriage and Elizabeth's death, combined with her age for the 1860 and 1870 census, have led me to change her birth from Apr 1853 to Apr 1851 as the daughter of Elizabeth, with the assumption that it was in Guernsey Co. Her mother may have died in childbirth, and it may be a coincidence that her name is the same as his 3rd wife, or she could have been named later!
Living with her father during the 1860 (age 8) and 1870 (age 19) census. Married 9 Feb 1871 in Knox Co by W. B. Watson. Listed in Fredericktown (North St) with her husband and family in 1880 census as age 26. Attended her brother, Joseph's, death in Fredericktown in Aug, 1882. Listed in 1900 census of Mt. Vernon (Pleasant St) as age 47, with her husband and 4 youngest children. It says that her mother was born in Ohio, she was married 27 yrs, and all 6 of her children were living at the time. She filed for divorce in July/August 1900 for Lorenzo having been drunk and not supporting her the previous 3 years. Decree granted Feb 1901. Listed as divorced and head of household with her son Clifford for (Elliot St) Mt Vernon in 1910. She is age 49, renting her home and one of her children had died by this time. Was living alone in a rented house on East Hamtrameb St. in Mt Vernon (age 70) in 1920. She was listed as a private nurse and DIVORCED. Both parents were listed as being from PA. Her death certificate says she died of artereosclerosis and was living at 114 N. Catherine in Mt Vernon. Erroneous info for her age, parents and their place of birth was given by her son, C. M. Brentlinger of Chicago. Her obituary says she died at 5:00 AM in Mercy Hospital after 3 weeks of illness with heart disease. She was survived by sons Clyde and Clell and daughters Myrtle and Minnie. Funeral services at McCormick's chapel by Rev Stanley Smith, burial in Forest Cem, Fredericktown.
