Listed as age 12, born in New Jersey with his family in 1910. Went to Wichita High School, KS. After marrying Frances Anna Brown in St John's Episcopalian Church, Wichita, KS in 1922, he was awarded the "Degree of Commercial Engineer" by the University of Cincinnati, OH on the 13th June 1925, just 14 days before Robert was born. They later moved to Australia, working for Armco. Robert had 3 sons by 1st wife; Brown Conrow who lives in N.Y. and Bill and Bob in Australia. He remarried after Frances died, and had another son, James, with his second wife, Merle.

Transferred to Boston, Branch Office, 1927 (being appointed District Manager). Journeyed to Melbourne, Australia, arriving November, 1929, as Australian Manager for Armco International Corp. of Ohio. 1933, formed the ARMCO (Aust.) Pty. Ltd., at which time he was appointed Manager Director. August, 1938, his Company in conjunction with John Lysaght (Aust.) Pty. Ltd., formed the Commonwealth Rolling Mills Pty. Ltd., employing a capital of £I,000,000, who will employ 400 to 500 hands, and have purchased a site of 80 acres at Port Kembla which will provide ample room for expanding their sheet rolling activities and offer plant sites to several feeder, or allied industries. Only mill in Southern Hemisphere producing high finished and specialty steel sheet. Capacity 50,000 tons annually with provisions for doubling this capacity at present site. Also capable of conversion to strip process. Each parent Company has manufacturing establishments in all the important sheet steel consuming markets of the world. Married: Frances Anna, eldest daughter of Ransom Brown (deceased 1931), of Warren, Ohio, August 6, 1922. Issue: Three sons, Robert Smock, Ransom Brown, and William Henry.
