He appears to be listed with his Uncle, Talbert Hill, in Cedar Rapids during the 1870 census; listed as Wyman Armstrong, age 4, but born in Vermont.
Listed as Wyman Fenton, 13 doing farm labor in 1880 census of Clay Center KS, born NY, (step) father born CT, mother born NY. This shows that he is the child of Luana, but has been “adopted” by Charles Fenton.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army as Wyman O. Armstrong on 12 Dec 1887 in Quincy, IL at age 21 yrs, 3 mos as a farmer with blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion and 5’ 7 1/2” tall. He served in the 4th Cavalry of Company A and was discharged in August 1888.
In 1900 he is listed at 703 Grand Ave in Hot Springs, Arkansas as Wyman with his wife Jenny (36), her 4 children and mother, plus their children Ernest (4) and Mabel (9 mos). It lists his birth as Oct 1865 in New York, and both parents born in NY. He is listed as a farm laborer, owning his mortgaged home, married 5 yrs.
He is listed as the son of Luana Hill living in Hampton, Franklin Co IA in 1909 when his grandfather’s will was settled.
The 1910 census lists him there with his wife of 15 years and their four children. He is listed as a farm laborer, renting his home and out of work 16 weeks of the previous year. His wife was married previously and had children by that marriage, 4 of whom were living in 1910.
In 1920 he is listed as doing hauling, his father born in Ireland.
He is listed alone and widowed in 1940 at age 73.

W. O. Armstrong Rites Held Here Tuesday, Aged Man Died Sunday in Missouri
Final rites for W.O. Armstrong, age 83, who passed away last Sunday, February 19th, at the home of his son E. E. Armstrong, in Glen Ellen, Missouri, were held Tuesday afternoon, at the Seventh Day Advent church, in Hampton. Rev. Fred Schultz, pastor of the church, officiated.
For the past two and one half years, Mr. Armstrong had ben residing on a farm near Fairfield. The first part of December he suffered a light stroke. Since that time he has been at the home of his son, E. E. Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong became bedfast on February 1st when complications set in and caused his death.
Wyman Otis Armstrong was born in New York on October 1, 1866. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Jennie Adkins, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, on October 29, 1894. Mrs. Armstrong preceded him in death eleven years ago.
He was also preceded in death by one son, a step daughter and a step son. A brother, William H. Armstrong, of Iowa Falls, passed away four years ago.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by four children: Mrs. L. O. Tucker, of Waterloo; Mrs. C. J. Atchison, of Hampton; E. E. Armstrong of Glen Allen, Missouri; and O. B. Armstrong of East St. Louis, Illinois; and two step-children, Mrs. E. E. Tucker, of Iowa Falls, and Mrs. S. H. Adkins, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, twenty-eight grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren.
He is listed only as Otis on his headstone, and his wife as Jennie.

She was first married to (Henry ) Clay Adkins, as her marriage to Otis was her second. Jennie and her mother, Nancy, ran a boarding house and restaurant in Hot Springs in the 1880s-1890s. Jennie's children were: Dottie Adkins, Birdy Adkins, Sidney Adkins, and Clay “Cass” Adkins from her first marriage, and Ernest Armstrong, Mable Armstrong, Jennie Armstrong, and Wyman Otis Armstrong from her second.
In 1900, 6 of her 7 children were living, which may indicate that she had a 5th child with Clay before his death.
In 1910, 8 of her 9 children were living.
1920 census appears to list her race as (American) Indian, as well as that of her children. Her son, Cass from the first marriage, and his family was living with them.
In 1930 she is listed as the widowed mother, living with the family of her son Ernest in Ralls Co, MO at age 67.
