He was 82, and a very unique character having run away from boarding school at 15 to become what you Americans call 'a cowboy'. Later, when trucking cattle took over from droving, he became a geologist and then a carpenter and was building a yacht to sail around the world when Jane met him. He was the real deal, droving huge herds of cattle hundreds and hundreds of miles through wild country, managing huge properties and, was also very cultured with wide interests.
