Married Ambrose Payne (1825-1873) and Martin Ellis (1810 - 1897) according to Descendants of Brittain Tallman from Wayne Co Hist Soc based on Ruth Allen Smith book.
By 1850 she had married Ambrose Payne (listed as Paine) and was living in Fell Twp, Luzerne Co, PA with their first 3 children. Both Ambrose and Mary Ann listed as age 28.
Listed in 1860 as the wife of Ambrose Payne (37, NY) a farmer. Mary Ann (36, PA) appears to be the mother of Nancy (17), Helen (15), William (11), James (9), Harriet (7), Milo (5) and Seymour (6 mos).
Ambrose registered for the Civil War draft in July 1863 at age 40, and they later moved to Wisconsin, where they are listed in 1870 as Ambrose (47, NY) a farmer and Maryann (43, PA) his wife along with children Nancy (24), James (19), Harriet (12), Milo (10), Homer (9), Isabella (6), and George (3), all born in PA.
Ambrose either died or they were divorced, as Mrs. Mary Payne married Martin Ellis on May 23, 1875 in Wisconsin. And she is listed in Kansas in 1880 as age 53 with Martin Ellis (70, MA), plus George Payne (14, PA) and Charley Payne (8, WI) living with them and listed as Martin’s stepsons. They had moved to Battle Creek, KS by the time of the 1885 Kansas state census, where Martin (75) is preacher, Mary is 56, and Charles Payne (14, WI) is her only child still living at home.
