Misc. Notes
Adonijah FENTON was born on 9 June 1754 in Willington, Tolland county CT, the third son of Samuel FENTON jr. and his wife Lydia LEE. There he was reared as one of a family of eight children, from there he served in the Revolutionary War, and there after returning from that war, he married - twice - and reared his own family. Though some children died young, there were seven children by his first wife, Drusilla HINCKLEY, and two more by the second wife, Ann Marcy FELLOWS - of whom at least three (possibly four) sons and a daughter married and reared families.
The full obituary of Adonijah Fenton also gives more details about the Revolutionary War incident when he participated in the capture of a British schooner. This story is verified through the pension application of his sergeant (and eventually his brother-in-law), David Hinckley, who commanded the platoon on that mission.
1790 Connecticut Census for Willington lists Adonijah and wife Drusilla with a family of 4 boys under 16 yrs and 1 girl over 16 yrs. 1810 Willington Census lists Adonijah and his wife Ann with a family of 1 boy under ten years and 1 girl under 16 years which would have been Aurella by his first wife. There was at least 1 boy born to Adonijah and Ann. Perhaps this is the Uncle, Stephen A. Fenton. 1840 Federal Census lists a military pensioner, Adonijah Fenton, age 86, living with Henry Whitney in Chautauqua township, Chautauqua county, NY.
