Jack Armstrong joined the U.S. Army at East Saint Louis, Illinois. He attained the rank of Private 1st Class and served as an ambulance driver in Europe. He was assigned to Clearing Station to the Evacuation Hospital. He served in Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Jack was awarded three Overseas Service Bars, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with 4 Bronze Battle Stars, the American Theater Medal, Good Conduct medal and WWII Victory Medal.
He worked for the Southern Railroad Police Department for 22 years.
Sergeant Armstrong was shot and killed while patrolling the company's rail yards at 14th St and Walnut Ave in East St. Louis, IL, at approximately 1400 hours on Thursday, April 25, 1968. He was attacked by four men who were on a crime spree following the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr. Sergeant Armstrong was transported to St. Mary's Hospital after the shooting where he succumbed to his wounds two hours later. The suspects stole Sergeant Armstrong's service weapon and later used it to murder Officer Henry Peeler of the Chicago Police Department.
Sergeant Armstrong was a US Army WWII veteran and had been with the Southern Railroad Police Department for 22 years. He was survived by his wife and daughter, and two sons, and late son.

George J. Green joined the U.S. Marine Corps from his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines, 1st Marine Brigade in Iceland. He was assigned to Battery F, 2nd Battalion, 12 Marines in the Third Marine Division. George was with the Fleet Marine Force in the Pacific.
He saw active duty in Bougainville, the North Solomon Islands, Guam and Iwo Jima. George was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and Letter of Commendation from the Marine Corps

A longtime resident of Webster Groves, Mo., formerly of Chicago, Illinois, he died peacefully at home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Green founded ISC Contracting in 1982 at the age of 60.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty (Foreman), infant daughter Patricia, daughter Nancy Kathleen Bill, and his second wife, Yvonne (Aldrich) Armstrong. Beloved father; loving grandfather of 19 and great-grandfather of 11; loving brother; loving brother-in-law; beloved uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Mr. Green was a longtime member of Annunciation Parish in Webster Groves, the Missouri Athletic Club, the American Legion, and the 3rd Marine Division, and a published author of WWII history. He was also the recipient of two Purple Hearts. Semper Fi.
