Maxine was born on September 29, 1921 in Wabaunsee, the daughter of John and Vernie (Welch) Bowman. She lived in the Wabaunsee/Manhattan/Wamego areas. She attended grade school in Wabaunsee and graduated from Wamego High School.
On November 5, 1939, Maxine was united in marriage to Allan W. Sumners by Rev. James A. Leach at the Methodist Parsonage in Manhattan, Kansas. Maxine spent many years of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of the Wabaunsee Willing Workers Ladies organization of the Beecher Bible and Rifle Church.
Maxine was a member of the Beecher Bible and Rifle Church in Wabaunsee. At her home in Wabaunsee, she took pleasure in harvesting and preserving the produce from the garden, crocheting and cooking for family, neighbors and friends. Maxine thoroughly enjoyed playing cards and as her family and friends can attest to as she was hard to beat. It would be difficult to determine when she was the happiest - playing with or showing pictures of her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by Ronald's four children: Robyn Michelle Sumners and her husband Chad Bell of North Hollywood, CA, Nathan and Jacob Sumners of Manhattan, KS and Seth Sumners of Wichita, KS.
