The newpaper article on the Tallmanville Road lists his name as Sidney Fardell. He was living with his mother in 1880, after the death of his father.

RITES HELD FOR SIDNEY TALLMAN
Funeral services were held today for Sidney F. Tallman, 83, former California and Nevada rancher and owner of an Oakland grocery store at Kansas and Brown Avenues. Tallman died Monday at his home, 3933 Patterson Avenue. A native of Pennsylvania, he lived in the Eastbay area for 23 years. He is survived by his wife, Carrie M. Tallman; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Hansen, and Mrs. Leonard Hale; a son, Arthur T. Tallman; a stepson, Avery P. Henkell, and a daughter, Esther L. Emery, all of Oakland. Services ware held at the Mission Chapel of the Robinson Mortuary, 1901 Fruitvale Avenue.
