Mason Moats, 54, took his own life at his farm south of Fontanelle about 3:30 p.m. Friday. Adair county authorities said he took his life with a shotgun. Mr. Moats was a lifelong resident of the Fontanelle vicinity.
Mr. Moats is survived by his widow, Ethel; his mother, Mrs. Ada Moats of Fontanelle; two daughters, Ruby Moats of Greenfield and Opal Moats of West Des Moines; six brothers, Glen and Clyde of Fontanelle; Merlin of Creston, Harold of Shenandoah, Ronald of Donnelson and Elmer of Des Moines; and two sisters, Thelma and Hazel Moats of Fontanelle.
