The Hanna family in America is directly descended from Alexander Hanna, who was born either in Scotland or Ireland in 1737. He emigrated with his wife, Martha, and infant son, James, from Ireland to America in 1771, and settled in York Co, Pennsylvania. He later moved to Somerset County in 1798.
