Peter Countryman, of Co. F, enrolled Sep. 22, 1861 in Waterloo by Capt. Merrill as a Private; mustered in Nov. 22, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Lt. Stansbury at age 26. He was 6’ 0 tall, light complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair. Born Jul. 1, 1834 in Ashland Co., OH, employed as a farmer, married to Elizabeth Hart, resident of Newville, in DeKalb Co., IN. Mustered out after serving 3 years Nov. 22, 1864 in Chattanooga, TN with rank of Private. Notes: Birth date of 1833 also found. Possibly illiterate. Finger shot off in battle of Shiloh. Returned to Regiment Aug. 10, 1862. Returned from sick duty Aug. 23, 1864. Mustered out on expiration of term of service. He filed Invalid Pension Application to receive Pension Certificate #688613 Jan. 14, 1891, in OH. Resident of Newville 1880-1893; of Hicksville, Defiance Co., OH, 1899-1911 where he died May 13, 1913; buried Newville, IN - Evergreen Cemetery.
