Charles was was born in Arguileshire in the north of Scotland and consequently called a Scottish Highlander. He was a descendent of a Campbell who belonged to one of those powerful Scottish Clans that we read of in the history of Scotland. The Duke of Arguile whose name was Campbell, was the leader or head of the Clan and he had a Company of Eighty Chosen Men, and each man's name was Campbell and each man was 6 feet high or over. Their ancestor, according to the tradition, belonged to that Company, and it was for that Company that that sweet old Scot tune was composed - "The Campbells Are Coming”.
